Best time to travel: June - March
On the “Best of Tanzania Lodge Safari”, you will experience the Tarangire National Park, the Lake Manyara National Park, the Serengeti and the world famous Ngorongoro Crater in which all these highlights are situated in the North of Tanzania. Spectacular wildlife watching is mixed with impressive landscapes; bushy picturesque forests, steep hanging craters and the seemingly endless grass savannah of the Serengeti.

Day 1 Arusha– Tarangire National Park
After a short briefing and loading the luggage onto the vehicle, you will drive in the direction of Tarangire National Park. Giant Baobab trees, the bush savannah and the seasonal marshes add to the wonder of this nature reserve. The park encompasses almost 2600 sq km, roughly the size of Luxemburg. The Tarangire National Park is considered as one of the best places in eastern Africa to watch elephants up close.

One reason is that there are approx. 4000 animals in the region, another reason is that the elephants are not so bothered by the presenceof motor vehicles which allows to come up close to the animals. Next to the elephants, you will also have a chance to see the beautiful Masai giraffe, various gazelles and antelopes, buffalos, lions, leopards, baboons and over a hundred different species of birds. After a day of wildlife watching, you will leave the park and arrive at the Maramboi Tented camp in the afternoon. Here you will stay overnight. Lunch; Dinner

Day 2 Tarangire Area - Serengeti
After breakfast, the journey takes you through the vegetation rich area of the Mbulu Highlands, where wheat, corn and coffee is cultivated. You will travel further upwards until you reach the Ngorongoro Nature Reserve and the Volcano pass. Having passed the crater highlands, you will soon see the plains of the southern Serengeti. You will stop for lunch at Oldupai Gorge, which is a very dry area today. This area became world renown from the work of the archaeological English couple Leaky as they found the oldest remains of prehistoric man during the sixties.

A nearby museum documents their work and a visit can be arranged. On the journey to the accommodation for the night, you will start to understand the meaning of the word "Serengeti" which comes from the Masai word “Siringitu”, meaning the endless plain. The southern Serengeti plains literally seem to go on forever, stretching until the horizon that is only interrupted by the so-called “Kopjes” or “Inselbergs” which are strange looking rock formations. These plains are the ideal hunting grounds for cheetahs and other big cats. In the afternoon, you will reach your destination for the day. According to the season, you will stay either at the or at the Mapito Tented Camp within or on the outskirts of the National Park. Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

Day 3 Serengeti National Park
Day 3 is set aside for wildlife watching and the Serengeti is at your disposal. The best vantage points and worthwhile areas are chosen to give you the best possible chance to observe animals and to capture your perfect photo. Depending upon the time of year, you have the chance to see the great migration with a hundred thousand wildebeests and zebras. During the small rain season in October and November, you will typically see these herds moving from the Kenyan Masai Mara through the northwest Serengeti to the plains in the south. After the great rain season in April, May and June, the herds travel slowly back through the west and northwest Serengeti.

With fluctuations in rainfall, this timetable can change resulting that the animals migrate during different times and routes. Your guide will know where and when to find the animals and makes sure that you can see the animals from the best spot in the national park. The Frankfurt Zoological Institute has a base at the Serengeti and a visit can be arranged. Depending on the season, the accommodation of the night is either the or the Mapito Tented Camp. Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner
